What is a Malignant Granular Cell Tumor?

Malignant granular cell tumor (MGCT) is a high-grade mesenchymal tumor of Schwann cell origin. Mesenchymal tumors include structures arising from mesodermal-derived precursor cells that develop into cartilage, bone, or other connective tissues. An MGCT commonly affects the thigh, extremity, and trunk, although involvement of the abdominal wall is rare.

Her cardiac and respiratory examinations were normal. However, advanced imaging studies of the abdomen revealed a firm mass within the abdominal wall. According to the Saudi Arabian researchers whose study about this cancer case is published in Hindawi, "Gross examination of the specimen showed an ellipse of skin that measured 13 x 10 cm with subcutaneous fatty tissue measuring 11 cm in thickness. On the cut section, a well-defined nonencapsulated grayish-yellow mass measuring 7 x 6 cm with foci of necrosis was seen."
