Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is an uncommon, usually benign (noncancerous) but sometimes malignant (cancerous) tumor comprising cells called myofibroblastic spindle cells. IMT commonly arises among children or young adults, although it can impact men and women of any age. An Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor can emerge in almost any part of the body, although it is most prevalent in the lung, peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity and internal organs), orbit (eye socket), and mesentery.
